Monitor2Go targets tablets and smartphones

MMT (Mobile Monitor Technologies) has debuted a slick portable display dubbed “Monitor2Go” which is targeted at iPads, iPhones, notebooks, smartphones and Android tablets.

The portable monitor – which boasts a 15.6-inch screen size with a resolution of 1600 x 900 – can be used to add a second display to MacBooks, iMacs or other PCs via USB.

It’s also designed to work with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices via HDMI.

“Using iPhones and iPads in the workplace has become a global phenomenon, but viewing, interacting with, and sharing content on these devices can be extremely problematic due to their small screens,” explained MMT exec Larry Pensack. “Now with the ability to add dual display capabilities to mobile devices, Monitor2Go is ideal whether you’re working or enjoying personal media content.”

The portable monitor measures 0.45-inches at its thinnest point, 1.09-inches thick at its thickest and weighs 3 pounds. Connectivity options include an HDMI input, USB mini-be input, and a pair of spare USB-A accessory ports. As noted above, MMT says the external display will work with any Mac, Windows desktop, or laptop computer.

The monitor can also be daisy-chained, with up to six individual Monitor2Go units running off a single host computer USB port using DisplayLink technology. The screen is capable of rotating left or right through 180° of travel and works in both landscape or portrait modes. In addition, the display features an audio output for speakers or headphones when using an HDMI input source. Available options include a mounting bracket and an optional battery pack.

Monitor2Go is currently available in two iterations: HD+  (1600 x 900) resolution for $329 and standard HD (1366 x 768) for $299.
