The Raspberry Pi has tipped up in a number of geek-related projects, including one where the bare-bones board was selected to power a model sailboat across the stormy Atlantic Ocean.
Not to be outdone, an aerospace engineer known as “Algorhythmic” is currently using the Raspberry Pi to power a remote-controlled truck equipped with a night vision video camera – which was apparently designed to conduct nocturnal surveillance missions.
Honestly, this may be one of the sweetest (and interesting) projects I’ve seen yet that involve the $35 Android-powered bare-bones board.
The surveillance vehicle is equipped with a PlayStation 3 Eye camera and Wi-Fi module – both of which are connected to the Raspberry Pi computer. The system is configured to allow the night vision camera to stream video over the Internet. The camera also boasts an Arduino controller and motor, allowing it to move back and forth.
The vehicle is controlled using a PlayStation game pad, and if you’re so inclined you can make your own surveillance vehicle based on the code Algorhythmic uploaded online.
The only thing I’d personally change is to swap the current remote-controlled vehicle for one of those insanely fast nitro-powered remote-controlled racing trucks.
