AMD launches 4000 series mobile graphics chips

AMD today launched the 400 series of mobile graphics chips, which promise about twice the gaming performance of the 3000 models.

The flagship of the new GPU series is the Mobility Radeon HD 4800, which will hit a floating point performance (single precision) of up to 1 TFlop, AMD said. For less money (and less performance) there are the HD 4600, HD 4500 and HD 4300.  The two lower-end models are expected to make their way into notebooks that have a focus on battery life.

First notebooks with 4000-series GPUs are expected to become available during the current quarter.
