While Sony last week unveiled the BWU-300S, its first 8x Blu-ray Disc (BD) burner, for launch in the North American market at a recommended retail price of $400 (along with a free BD movie title, Men In Black), Lite-On IT does not feel competitive pressure and will not follow suit immediately, according to industry sources in Taiwan. Sony is the fourth Japan-based vendor to offer 8x BD burners, following Matsushita Electric industrial (Panasonic), Buffalo and I-O Data Device.
