AMD wants out consumer electronics market, Intel wants in: The company announced its CE 3100 system on a chip, formerly code-named Canmore, aiming to attract customers in the optical media player, connected CE devices advanced cable set top box and digital TV market.
According to Intel, the CE 3100 promises “leading-edge multi-stream video decoding and processing hardware” with a 3-channel 800 MHz DDR2 memory controller, dedicated multi-channel dual audio DSPs, a 3D graphics engine and support for multiple peripherals, including USB 2.0 and PCI Express.
Intel expects to begin shipments of the SoC next month.
