Intel to augment 1-way server lineup in third quarter

  • Intel plans to strengthen its 1-way server lineup with the addition of new processors along with price cuts for existing products in the third quarter 2007. The price cuts and new products will help give the company's Bigby-P and Bigby-V chipset-based Garlow platform, scheduled for introduction around the same time, a head start in the market, thus paving the way for 45nm quad- and dual-core processors codenamed Yorkfield and Wolfdale in the first quarter of 2008, according to sources at Taiwan-based server makers. The third-quarter price cuts come on the back of an earlier set of cuts scheduled for April.
