Vinyl Still Going Strong in the Marketplace

It’s remarkable to think that right now audio cassettes are the hot format for music, and it’s certainly not cutting edge technology. We can make jokes about eight-track tapes maybe making a comeback some day as well, but older formats like vinyl, and now tape, have absolutely made a big comeback in today’s day and age.

As Blabbermouth.net reports, metal / hard rock legend Alice Cooper recently said in an interview, “Last year, vinyl went up 85 percent. And the kids, I think they’re tired of buying air. They don’t get anything with it. I think this generation is rebelling against the technology thing. I sign more records than I do CDs anymore.”

Now here’s the amazing figures…There has been an increase of over 50% in vinyl from 2013 to 2014, and over 9.2 million vinyl albums were sold last year. Here’s another amazing figure: Vinyl sales have gone up 260% since 2009.

We’re definitely happy about this, and it’s amazing anyone’s buying music at all in this day and age. Some indeed feel that vinyl is a rebellion against the music industry, or what’s left of it, dictating the format to audiences. For many music fans, vinyl sounds infinitely better, and the packaging is just cool as hell, so let vinyl reign.
