Black Panther Update

While superhero mania finally seems to be cooling down a bit, one Marvel adaptation we’re curious to check out is The Black Panther. Superhero movies are still nowhere near as diversified as they should be, and we’d love to see more African American heroes out there.

Ava DuVernay, who directed Selma, was up to direct the film, which would make a great choice, but reports tell us that like Edgar Wright leaving Ant-Man, there were clear differences of opinion.

“Marvel has a certain way of doing things,” DuVernay told Essence. “I think they’re fantastic and a lot of people love what they do. I loved that they reached out to me…In the end, it comes down to story and perspective. We just didn’t see eye to eye. Better for me to realize that now than cite creative differences later.”

Vulture has also reported that the Falcon, from Captain America, will apparently be making an appearance in Ant-Man. The current posters you’ve been seeing everywhere for Ant Man are proving to be very Avengers-centric, showing that this is part of a much bigger story.

Again, we’ve been hoping for more diversity in superheroes for a long time, and to have a woman direct a superhero film would be great. (Patty Jenkins will probably be the first with the Wonder Woman solo film.)
