The Terminator’s Done

This shouldn’t be too much of a surprise, but the new Terminator movie didn’t come in at #1 this fourth of July weekend. In fact, he came in third, but at least Jurassic World finally got knocked off its perch by Inside Out.

As Ah-nold’s pushing seventy, it indeed looks as if the Terminator’s run out of steam, but we saw that coming for a long time. Let’s face it, nobody wants to see the Terminator old, and the series should have done one more movie with James Cameron directing, tie it off as a trilogy, and leave it at that.

However, according to reports, Genisys has been doing decent business overseas, but here in the States, as Forbes tells us in a post-mortem, the movie cost $155 million, and it made $44 million over a five day weekend.

So what did Forbes list as the reasons it flopped. Among many, there were bad reviews, bad marketing, it got a wussy PG-13 rating, and ultimately Ah-nold’s just not a big box office star anymore these days. The Terminator wasn’t the franchise that took a hit either, Magic Mike XXL didn’t do well either.
