Can Z Nation Bring New Life to the Undead?

We know, just what we need, more zombies, right? We figured the whole trend would be done by this point, but with the continued success of The Walking Dead, and Paramount averting disaster with World War Z, looks like we’re still going to have to put up with the undead for at least a little while longer.

So now the show Z Nation is throwing its hat in the ring. How does it measure up? According to the Hollywood Reporter review, the Syfy series “pales badly in comparison to The Walking Dead, but Z Nation might be mindless (brainless?) entertainment to add to your list.”

The Reporter suggests you don’t look for depth here, but if you just want to have fun with zombies, this show may not be a bad diversion. “As a B-level entry it’s at least entertaining, and if some of the sillier aspects of the pilot can be improved on [it] could be one of those mindless entertainment options we all need now and again.”

Frankly, this might be what the zombie genre could use right now. Maybe we take the undead too seriously these days and have to remember that they were originally B movie domain before everyone started making them into a political allegory. Ultimately the ratings will decide if Z Nation lives or dies, but zombies are still miraculously still with us, and should continue to keep on rotting in the free world for some time to come.
