Obama looks for an "ass to kick" over BP spill
US President Barack Obama is apparently looking for an "ass to kick" over BP's embarrassing failure to halt a catastrophic oil leak off the Louisiana coast.
During a recent interview with NBC, Obama confirmed he was consulting with Gulf Coast fisherman and various experts to gain a better understanding of the unfolding environmental disaster.
"I talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers — so I know whose ass to kick," said Obama.
Meanwhile, the federal government has confirmed that plumes of dispersed oil are spreading far below the ocean surface (42 miles) from the leaking well in the Gulf of Mexico.
However, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration head Jane Lubchenco emphasized the concentrations were currently "very low."
"There is oil subsurface — we have always expected that, but it's good to have confirmation."
Lubchenco said the agency was "working hard" to determine "where the oil is going and where it is at the surface, and where it might be below the surface, and what the consequences of that oil will be to coastal communities as well as to the health of the gulf."
