Ubisoft sells 1.6 million copies of Assassin's Creed 2

  • First week sales of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed 2 have successfully reached the 1.6 million mark.

    "This represents 32 percent growth over the first week sales of [the original] Assassin's Creed. Launched in November 2007, Assassin's Creed remains the fastest selling new video game intellectual property ever in the US," Ubisoft confirmed in an official statement. ??

    "Assassin's Creed II has received an overwhelmingly positive reception from gamers around the world and from the video game trade press with to date an average user rating of 94 percent on Gamespot.com and over 91 percent average critics score according to GameRankings.com."

    Wedbush Morgan analyst Edward Woo told TG Daily that Ubisoft remains "on track" to meet predictions of 6 million units sold for the first quarter ending December 31.

    "Sales of Assassin's Creed II have successfully met initial expectations due to a combination of factors, including a bigger install base and an improved marketing campaign strategy," said Woo. "The game will definitely have a huge impact on the Ubisoft's revenue, but will not change the company's current guidance."

    He added that sales of Assassin's Creed II could not be compared to Activision's CoD: Modern Warfare 2, which sold 4.7 million units during its first 24 hours in the US and UK.
