Hard core gamers shun Conduit for the Wii

San Francisco (CA) - Hard core gamers have reportedly shunned the Conduit FPS (first-person shooter) for the Wii. According to NPD, High Voltage Software and Sega have only mananged to sell 72,000 copies of the over-hyped game.

Similar titles for the Wii - including House of the Dead: Overkill and MadWorld - fared little better on the sales charts. Sean Ratcliffe of Sega attributed the lack of enthusiasm over such games to the Wii's relatively "new" mature audience.

"The system has traditionally targeted families and kids and not the more mature hardcore gamer. We recognize that when you are trying something new, it may take awhile for the consumer to jump on board with it," Ratcliffe told IGN.

Meanwhile, Activision's Prototype (Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows) sold an impressive 419,900 games in June. UFC 2009 Undisputed (Xbox 360) came in second place with 338,300 copies, while EA Sports Active for the Wii hit third place with 289,100.

As TG Daily previously reported, Nintendo had hoped that the Conduit - along with upcoming titles such as The Grinder and Gladiator AD - would help convince veteran gamers that the Wii is more than just a glorified exercise machine.
