Red Dead Redemption, a sequel to a 2004 title called Red Dead Revolver, is being developed by Rockstar San Diego. It is set at the turn of the 20th century, said Rockstar, at a time in which the wildness of the West is being slowly tamed by government and the coming Industrial Age.
The game arc revolves around a character named John Marston.
Rockstar said it using its in-house Rockstar Advanced Gaming Engine to develop the title. As an open world title, it is being developed so that players can explore "frontier towns, rolling prairies teeming with wildlife, and perilous mountain passes." Game play features mentioned include gunfights and battles as well as interacting with other characters in-game.
"The team at San Diego have massively exceeded our expectations with the sheer depth of experiences in Red Dead Redemption," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games, in a statement. "The seamless combination of breathtaking beauty and intense action, all woven together with strong plotlines in a massive vibrant, rural environment is mind-blowing. We think this game helps to push the limits of what an open-world gaming experience can be."
