Dark Knight tickets selling for $100+ on eBay and Craigslist
Los Angeles (CA) – The buzz for the new Batman movie is pushing ticket prices way up … in some cases people are willing to pay more than a $100 for passes to The Dark Knight starring Christian Bale, the late Heath Ledger and Michael Cain. Many theatres (especially the IMAX ones) are already sold out and Batman fans are turning to eBay and Craigslist for tickets. Of course, when tickets are scarce, scalpers are always in the picture.
A quick scan of eBay auctions shows most tickets selling for $30 to $40 each which is about a three to four times markup over the regular price. However one recently completed auction was selling tickets for tonight’s opening in New York City for $125 a ticket.
Looking through Craigslist, we saw numerous ads from people wanting to pay outrageous sums for tickets. Here’s the text from one such ad. “I need 2 tickets to The Dark Knight for tonight's showing (12:01) at the Universal Citywalk. Will pay up to $65 a ticket. Please contact me as soon as possible. Thank you.” We think he probably promised a nice date for his girlfriend and he’s now going to get burned for it.
Most movie analysts expect The Dark Knight to pull in at least $100 over the Friday to Sunday period. Some believe it might even surpass the $151.1 million made by Spider-Man 3. Many theatres are showing the movie on an almost 24-hour schedule with some at 3AM and even 6 AM.
