Taipei (Taiwan) – The name Acer doesn’t usually bring images of fast and sexy computers, but the company hopes its new Predator computer line will propel it into the hands of wealthy enthusiasts and high-end gamers. The Aspire G7700 Predator case resembles something out of a sci-fi movie with its orange paintjob and lift up front panel.
Liquid cooling comes with all Predator systems and you can configure up to three Nvidia 9800 GTX video cards, 8 gigabytes of DDR2 RAM and a Core 2 Extreme processor at purchase time. Perhaps the most interesting feature is the four front loading drive bays at the bottom-front of the chassis. Acer claims these drives are hotswappable when used in a RAID 5 configuration.
Acer hasn’t finalized the pricing on the Predator systems just yet. The units we saw at this year’s Computex tradeshow in Taipei could be early prototypes as Acer staff sprinted over to us when we tried to lift up the front panel. Heck we weren’t going to let a big “Do Not Touch” sign get in our way.
Acer was also showing off it new line of monitors which boast a 2 ms response time and 50000 to 1 contrast ratio.
