Nintendo Wii killing off Japanese arcades
Tokyo (Japan) – The Nintendo Wii is proving to be a big hit with kids who usually go to Japan’s surviving arcades. This is killing off the many establishments in the $6.9 billion industry.
Sega Sammy Holdings says it will close 110 arcades or about 25% of its locations while Namco Bandai will close 20% of its locations or about 50-60 stores. Many kids playing the Wii at home is a more peaceful and healthy experience (lack of alcohol, smoke and drugs). Of course, playing in your underwear – or even naked – without anyone complaining could be a big plug.
