Singapore Airlines just announced that it is offering iPod and iPhone interfaces on its planes that are travelling between Los Angeles and Singapore as well as between New York and Singapore. The pitch on this new service is that you can watch your iTunes videos on 15.4” LCDs rather than staring on the smallish iPod LCD during those 10+ hour flights.
If you are wondering, yes there is a catch. Most of us are rather unlikely to be enjoying this new service anytime soon. Those 15.4” LCDs are only installed on the airline’s new Airbus A340-500 jets, which are configures as business class-only planes. Depending on your flight schedule, plan with a budget of at least $7000 and as much as $8000 for a round-trip ticket.
