Everquest to celebrate 9th birthday
Launched in 1999, Sony’s 3D fantasy-themed massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) EverQuest will be celebrating its 9th birthday on March 16. The game is believed to have been the world’s most popular until World of Warcraft gained popularity in late 2004. With the rise of World of Warcraft, Everquest lost visibility and a birthday celebration is a good opportunity to put the title back into the spotlight.
Sony Online Entertainment said that it will launch a scavenger hunt on March 16, challenging players to figure out clues and how they refer to each other in order to be able to receive an “in game reward.” Sony said that there will be a number of other hosted events throughout the year, leading up to the 10th anniversary of the game.
