Wii, DS finish 2007 on top
Port Washington (NY) - Once again, the Nintendo DS and Wii were the two top selling video game platforms in December 2007, earning combined unit sales of over 3.75 million.
According to the latest report from industry tracker NPD, 1.35 million Wii consoles were sold in the last month of 2007, edging out Xbox 360 sales of 1.26 million units. The Playstation 3 saw unit sales of 796,600, far behind its two competitors but still a huge jump from the previous month. Less than 500,000 PS3 consoles were sold in November. PS2 sales in December reached 1.1 million units.
On the portable side, the DS saw one of the most successful months in its history - 2.47 million units sold. That's easily more than double the PSP, which climbed to just over one million units last month.
Once again, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on the Xbox 360 topped the game software charts in December. Its unit sales of 1.47 million units just barely eclipsed the Wii's Super Mario Galaxy at 1.4 million. The PS2 version of Guitar Hero III was third on the list with 1.25 million units.
Wii Play, which was seen almost every month in 2007 as one of the top 10 sellers, ranked fourth last month with 1.08 million units, followed by Assassin's Creed on the Xbox 360, which reached 893,700 units.
