Sony today said that it will discontinue both launch versions of the PS3 in Japan. The 20 GB and 60 GB models are expected to see final shipments this month. Going forward, Sony said that it will be focusing on 40 GB model, which was introduced last November. According to the company, this strategy will make the “PS3 the most advanced high-definition entertainment system while realizing lower power consumption.”
Sony noted that it intends to continue to “further expand the PS3 platform”, but did not provide any details.
