Transformers sets new HD video sales record

  • Hollywood (CA) – Transformers has become the best-selling high definition video title (that is available on a single format) within the first week of its launch, Paramount Home Entertainment announced.

According to the studio, Transformers sold more than 100,000 HD DVDs in North America in its first week and more than 190,000 HD DVDs overall. Paramount said that this result makes Transformers the top-selling week one release on either high definition format as well as the best-selling HD DVD ever. Also, it was noted that more than 20% of buyers of the HD DVD have connected to the web-enabled features of the Transformers disc.

Of course, the HD DVD sales are still a fraction of DVD sales. 8.3 million DVDs were sold since the title’s debut on October 16, with 4.5 million discs sold on the first day alone.
