World of Warcraft reaches 800,000 concurrent users in China
Shanghai (China) – Blizzard’s launch of the World of Warcraft Burning Crusade expansion pack in China has helped it reach a record 800,000 simultaneous players in that country. The expansion pack was launched September 6th 2007 after several months of contentious negotiations between Blizzard and The9, Blizzard’s partner in China.
The Burning Crusade was launched in the United States on January 16th 2007, but the folks in China had to wait for Blizzard and The9 to finalize localization and fee issues.
Unlike players in the United States and Europe, World of Warcraft players in China don’t pay monthly subscription fees rather they pay by the hour.
