Halo 3 goes gold
Redmond (WA) - Headed off to the assembly line is the most anticipated title on the Xbox 360 since the console's 2005 debut, Halo 3.
The first-person shooter Halo franchise quickly became Microsoft's defining series for its gaming console, with Halo and Halo 2 topping the list of the top-selling games on the original Xbox.
Halo 3 is even more widely anticipated because of its improved graphics and the addition of a four-player cooperative play mode online. The game is expected to be one of the most advertised titles ever, with a limited edition Mountain Dew drink, Burger King tie-ins, and even a limited edition Halo 3 Pontiac.
Earlier this month, Halo 3 topped one million pre-orders, leading Micosoft to claim it as the fast-selling pre-ordered video game.
Halo developer Bungie has stated this title will be the final installment in the "current story arc" of the Halo trilogy.
Halo 3 will be available September 25 in three separate packages ranging from $60 to $130, with premium versions including bonus content.
