Seattle (WA) - Customers who purchase the Xbox 360 Elite and HD DVD drive from Amazon will receive seven free HD DVD titles, curbing virtually the entire cost of the player.

In addition to the King Kong movie that comes packed with the Xbox 360 HD DVD player, users who buy an Xbox 360 Elite and Xbox 360 HD DVD player in the same purchase will receive the movie "300" for free.

Additionally, customers will be able to send in a rebate form to receive five additional HD DVD titles from a select list at no cost.

The price for the bundle is $600, already a $30 savings compared to buying the console and the HD DVD drive separately.  The price of the six additional free movies is around $155.  In essence, people who purchase the bundle will receive the Xbox 360 Elite and Xbox 360 HD DVD player for $445, less than the MSRP of the Xbox 360 Elite by itself.

Arguably the largest HD DVD provider, Amazon is under pressure to sell the format against rising popularity for Blu-ray.  Amazon has also been noted for its slashed price on the HD-A2 HD DVD player, selling it for well below the MSRP at around $240.
