Macronix to benefit from shortage of ROM for Nintendo DS game cartridges

  • Macronix International Company (MXIC) is expected to benefit from the failure of US- and Japan-based companies to smoothly change their manufacturing process for ROM used in Nintendo DS game cartridges, according to industry sources.

Nearly 70-80% ROM used in Nintendo's DS game cartridges was provided by MXIC in 2006. The shipments proportion is expected to increase to 90% this year, the sources noted. With the growing shipments to Nintendo, sales contribution from the Japan-based company in 2007 may continue to increase from the 40% of MXIC's overall sales in 2006, added the sources.
