Wistron reportedly not able to land Wii orders
Seattle (WA) - Wistron plans to hire 1,000 additional R&D engineers to strengthen its developments in desktop and notebook PCs, LCD TVs, PDAs, servers and other new products, according to sources at the OEM notebook maker.
Wistron's move comes after the company's board of directors recently approved a company plan to boost its capital from NT$16 billion (US$488 million) to NT$20 billion to finance its future development.
As part of its expansion project, Wistron, since early this year, has been actively seeking an opportunity to manufacture the Wii gaming consoles for Nintendo, according to a July 19 Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN). However, strong competition coming from Asustek Computer recently may dash Wistron's hope to land the Wii orders from Nintendo, said EDN, without quoting sources.
