E3: New Ratchet and Clank game looks promising
Santa Monica (CA) - Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction may not be the most intense, but it is one of the PS3's funnest titles on display at this year's E3.

We had the opportunity to play through the first round of the new title and we were pulled in to the game right away. For an action platformer like this, it's really nice to have a controller layout that has already been tried and tested for over a decade.
The city falling into destruction is the scene for the first round, with landscape and environmental elements dynamically changing with the surrounding action. This leaves the title pair to run around, find safe platforms, and escape anything that might cause damage, and do it intensely fast, which is what platforming is all about.
It also meshes gameplay with graphics, offering tons of fancy explosions that add the perfect ambience to a hectic playing experience. It was a small taste of what will be a big game when it comes out on October 2, and we liked what we saw.
Tools of Destruction is going to be a pivotal title for Sony not only because of the online promise but also because the two title characters have become Playstation mascots.
This gives the game the familiarity it needs to become a popular online title. The game will offer lots of back story for the mechanically matched duo. It is, for all intents and purposes, the Mario of the Playstation 3.
We will have to wait to see how the much anticipated online mode pans out. With the past success of Ratchet & Clank online on the PS2, the PS3 title could be the more casual online gaming killer app that Sony has been looking for with its next-gen console.
