Sony preps PS3 firmware update 1.82

  • Foster City (CA) - Sony has detailed what to expect in the Playstation 3's next firmware update, less than two weeks after version 1.81 was released.

The PS3 has easily earned the title of the most frequently updated console when it comes to firmware updates.  Version 1.81 went live on June 15 and Sony is already talking about the next update.

Version 1.82 will allow playback of AVC High Profile files.  This is the same format as H.264/MPEG-4, which is a high definition video standard.  In the official Playstation blog, online director Eric Lempel writes that this also paves the path for future updates to include advanced audio playback features.
