Sonic 2 speeds to Wii Virtual Console

Redmond (WA) - Sega has doled out its second Genesis classic featuring the iconic blue hedgehog, as the headliner for today's slate of new Virtual Console titles.

Originally released in 1992, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 added Sonic's sidekick tails and the enhancement that soon became synonymous with the series, Super Sonic.

The new addition follows the Wii's launch day release of Sonic the Hedgehog on the Virtual Console.  Sonic 2 is available for 800 Wii Points ($8).

Also making its way to the digital store this week are fellow Sega Genesis title Golden Axe II, a fantasy side-scrolling slasher that first appeared in 1991, and Lode Runner from the NES days.  Lode Runner is a vintage puzzle game dating back nearly 25 years.

Golden Axe is available for 800 Wii Points, with Lode Runner ringing up at 500 ($5).
