Redmond (WA) - Following a rash of complaints from consumers who couldn't easily transfer data from their old 360 to the Elite model, Microsoft announced it will offer free transfer cables for those who request one.
Microsoft had previously announced that it would not include a transfer cable with the Elite because it was marketing the newer console to those who didn't already have one of the two base models.
However, some game enthusiasts bought the Elite as an upgrade, only to find out they couldn't transfer data between the two. Because of Microsoft's strict digital rights management (DRM), by just moving the content manually between the two, users lose the ability to play media files and Xbox Live Arcade titles on the Xbox 360 Elite.
Affected users can apply for a free cable from Microsoft by filling out a form available on the official Xbox site.
