Irvine (CA) - Blizzard is now offering a 10-day free trial of its Burning Crusade World of Warcraft Expansion. The downloadable trial let players try out new races and all the content in the expansion world, Outland. Players can keep most of the virtual loot after the trial ends.
The trial is available through Blizzard’s World of Warcraft website and players will need to have the original World of Warcraft game installed. After the trial, players can continue playing the expansion by buying a retail box or by paying $40 online.
While players can travel to Outland, they won’t be able to reach level 61 during the trial. All items and pets obtained during the trial will transfer over to the regular game, if the player decides to not purchase the Burning Crusade.
Blizzard has offered free trials of World of Warcraft before often bundling the game with computers and selling almost free $1.99 DVDs at game stores. Current players can also offer a free trial to their friends and will get a free month of gameplay if the friend eventually signs up.
The Burning Crusade expansion was launched on January 16th to much fanfare. Thousands of players lined up for hours and even days before the release, hoping to get the first copies and level their characters. You can read our launch coverage with pictures here.
Current World of Warcraft players are not required to purchase the expansion pack.
