UK bans "dangerous driving" Xbox 360 ad
London (England) - The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) in the UK has banned an Xbox 360 commercial because it says the ad promoted dangerous driving.
The ad, which featured a street car chase, has been pulled from the UK airwaves, effective immediately. "We were concerned that the ad gave the impression that reckless street car racing was exciting and fun, and considered that was compounded by the congratulations offered to the other driver at the end of the race by the other young men involved," said the ASA in a statement.
The ad provided a note at the end that said stunts were performed in a controlled environment. The ASA dismissed the disclaimed by saying that "the text reinforced the sense that the events in the ad were real, rather than fantasy, and were therefore capable of being copied."
