Gears of War sells more than 2 million units
Microsoft and Epic Games have announced that the Gears of War shoot-em-up game has sold more than two million copies world-wide. This makes the game, according to the two companies , the fastest selling next-gen console game in 2006.
Gears of War was released six weeks ago and has sold about one million units in the United States alone. Jeff Bell, corporate VP for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft says, "'Gears of War' clearly has won the battle for the title of the must-have game of the year."
The game has also increased Xbox Live subscriptions by more than 50 percent per day and players have started 10 million online matches.
Gears of Wars is an award-winning futuristic shooter that allows people to cling to and take cover behind almost any object. Unlike other shooters, the emphasis isn't on massive firepower, but on teamwork and taking cover at the right moments.
