EA announces Def Jam: Icon for PS3 and Xbox 360
Electronic Arts today announced Def Jam: Icon, a new game headed for the PS3 and Xbox 360 systems next year. Continuing the publisher's Def Jam series, Icon brings an unusual mix of fighting and music to the next generation consoles of Sony and Microsoft.
Def Jam: Icon, which is coming out of EA's Chicago studio, lets players pit music celebrities against each other, with character selection including Ludacris, Big Boi, and T.I. Kudo Tsunoda, executive producer and general manager of EA Chicago, said the development company wanted to incorporate music and rhythm into the game's fighting mechanics.
"In Def Jam: Icon, we are changing the way fighting games are played. We are completely innovating the role of the environments in the games, moving from the typical lifeless arenas the hip-hop celebrities are fighting in to environments that play an instrumental part in the fight where they will react to the music and interact with both characters like a third fighter," Tsunoda was quoted.
The Def Jam series dates back to 2003 with Def Jam Vendetta for the Xbox, PS2 and Gamecube. Def Jam: Icon is the official name for the previously unnamed addition to the series that EA announced earlier this year. It is due out for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in March 2007.
