EA grows Godfather game series, launches two new games
Redwood City (CA) - Two new Godfather are joining EA's Corleone Family video game lineup. The publisher announced "The Godfather, The Game" for Microsoft's Xbox 360 console and "The Godfather, Mob Wars" for Sony's Playstation Portable (PSP), which almost completes the multi-platform rollout of the game series.
Electronic Arts said that the Xbox 360 version allows players to join the Corleone family, carry out orders, earn respect, rise through the ranks of the system and achieve the ultimate goal of becoming "Don of New York City" in 1945. The game promises new missions, venue takeovers and "contract hits for big payouts and respect." According to the publisher, the game offers "enhanced family interaction" to enable players to hire "crew member soldiers for back up on jobs."
Mob Wars is an adaptation of the series for Sony's handheld gaming system, which also is based on the idea to climb through the ranks of the Corleone family. Taking over territory is a key part of the strategy-oriented game, EA said: "Players will direct their mobsters and play the right cards to take control of NYC one territory at a time."
Electronic Arts was the first video game company to publish an official game based on the 1972 cult mob flick. Earlier versions of the game were released for the PS2, Xbox, and PC in March. A version for Nintendo's Wii console, which is set to be released on 19 November 19 is planned as well.
The Godfather: The Game for Xbox 360 has a list price of $60, while Mob Wars for the PSP is priced at $40.
