Star Wars Casting Narrowing In On Its Heroic Lead

We had the feeling that some more Star Wars news would break soon, especially considering it’s supposed to start shooting either this summer, or early fall at Pinewood Studios in London. Adam Driver from the show Girls is reportedly up to play the villain, and for the lead hero role, casting is coming down to five people.

The story goes that practically every young actor in Hollywood was been up for a role in Star Wars, and according to Variety, the male lead has come down to five people: Ed Speelers (Downton Abbey, John Boyega (Attack the Block), Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad), and Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher, who are both theatrical actors.

As Variety reports, “Some insiders warn the search is still ongoing, [but] multiple sources confirm to Variety these actors have moved to the top of the list in recent weeks.”

As for the role they could be playing, Variety has speculated it will be “a Jedi apprentice.” If current net speculation is true, the next Star Wars movie will focus on the original heroic trio of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford, as well as their offspring, who will eventually take over for their folks.
