Goosebumps, the famed children’s horror book series created by R.L Stine, has been in development for a long time as a feature film, and at one point, Tim Burton was attached to direct. Now it looks like Jack Black will star, and it has a release date.The Hollywood Reporter tells us Goosebumps is slated to hit theaters on March 23, 2016, and it’s not going up against any other big blockbusters at the moment. Rob Letterman (Gulliver’s Travels) will be the director.
There are 62 books in the Goosebumps series, beginning with Welcome to Dead House in 1992, and it finally ended in 1997. According to the L.A. Times, the Goosebumps series became so popular it was literally selling millions of copies a month. It also received its share of controversies, reportedly becoming the most requested books to be removed from libraries.
A Goosebumps movie has been in development at Sony since 2008, and now it looks like it’s finally ready to roll. Stine will be a character in the film, who we’re assuming will be played by Jack Black, living next door to two teenagers in Maryland. The monsters in Stine’s imagination become unleashed, and the kids next door will have to deal with the consequences.
