Benedict Cumberbatch Is Okay With the Khan-Spiracy

Here it is, seven months since Star Trek: Into Darkness came out, and we’re still fixated on that damn Khan. How is this possible? Well, it all has to do with the issue of secrecy, and how Khan was kept a secret for too long.

JJ Abrams just revealed this week that he regretted keeping the current villain a mystery as long as he did, and he claimed it was more the studio’s idea than his. (It’s kinda hard to believe this, because we all know how hard JJ works to keep everything under wraps.) Yet Benedict Cumberbatch, who took over the Khan dynasty, liked the fact that he was kept a mystery for a long time.

Cumberbatch facetiously called Abrams “a dickhead” for his comments, and added, “The amount of times we ha dot lie for him…the amount of times I had to talk about it not being my character! But I don’t know if it was a bad or a good thing…the intention was to have a reveal in the audience that was going to be thrilling. That worked to an extent. Not everybody knew what they were in for when they went into the theater.”

We at TGD understand you don’t want to give away the store before you go see a movie, but a lot of this spoiler police stuff has gotten pretty out of hand. With Khan, it got so ridiculous that by the time it was finally revealed to be true, it was anti-climactic. It’s probably only going to get worse with Star Wars, but we all know trying to keep anything secret on that movie will be like trying to hold back the ocean with a broom.
