At the end of The Dark Knight Rises, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is set up to take over the crime fighting dynasty as Nightwing. But as Levitt and Christian Bale have stated over and over again, the Batman trilogy is it, it’s done, and whatever comes afterwards will be a whole new thing.
Yet could Levitt star in the long awaited movie version of The Sandman? Neil Gaiman’s graphic novel has been in the works to be made into a movie for many years now, and now Collider tells us that it could finally get up and running, thanks to screenwriter David S. Goyer (Blade, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2). According to Collider and Badass Digest, Goyer has already pitched it to Warners, and the studio has been very receptive.
Warners was also very receptive to another Goyer pitch, Man of Steel, and it got set up pretty quickly. Apparently Levitt is attached to the pitch, and he may be attached as Morpheus, the dream master of the story.
As these reports stress, everything’s in the early stages right now, but Goyer’s brought a lot of successful stuff to Warners, especially Batman and the reinvention of Superman, so we wouldn’t be surprised if Sandman gets up and running. It could be a nice way to make it up to Levitt, considering he probably won’t be the next crime fighter to save Gotham.
