Okay, so Disney just threw down the gauntlet, booking Star Wars on December 18, 2015, the same day World of Warcraft is scheduled to come out. But this is over two years down the road here, and there’s plenty of time to set up a new release date where the long awaited WoW movie can really kick some ass.
As Collider confirms, the movie is going to to start shooting in Vancouver in early 2014, and early concept art was just revealed at Blizzcon. Bill Westenhofer, the special effects supervisor for Life of Pi, will be working on Warcraft as well. As director Duncan Jones told the audience, at first the WoW script was too much about the human struggle, but it’s now been changed to where “it’s about both sides.”
The script will tell “the story of Anduin Lothar versus Durotan, Human and Orc heroes from the original real-time strategy games.” Jones also added, “it’s been hard to find an actor who looks like Durotan. Every time I meet an actor I just try to squish his face.”
As far as the tone Jones and company are going for, they’re trying for a Gladiator vibe, and Westenhofer added, “The swords that are being built [for the movie] are the biggest swords a human being can wield.” So let’s hope that when WoW is ready in 2015 it will really be a wow.
