Right now there’s a big effort going on in Hollywood to deliver a great video game movie. But while we’re still waiting for one to hit the big screen, there have been several successful webisode adaptations of Halo and Mortal Kombat that have been going like gangbusters.
Tancharoen tweeted, “After 3 years of Kombat, I’ve decided to move ton to other creative opportunities. I wish everyone involved in the movie big success.”
It would have been an interesting crossover to see Kombat go from webisode to the big screen, and we’re wondering if one day Halo could do the same. The first Kombat web series got over twenty million views on YouTube, so there’s certainly an audience big enough to come out for a full-blown feature.
The news on Tancharoen leaving just broke, so we’ll keep you posted on who could potentially take his place. It feels like there could indeed be a critical mass building for video game movies, and it would be great to see Mortal Kombat joining the party.
