S.H.I.E.L.D. Reviews Are In

The Avengers spin-off, S.H.I.E.L.D., is nearly upon on us, making its big debut on September 24, and now apparently the reviews are in. Let’s cut to the chase here…does the show deliver or not?

According to the initial reviews, it does. Ratings are sure to be huge however the first episode is quality wise, but MTV.com calls it “required viewing,” Newsday calls it “a blast for fans,” and USA Today writes “Fortune smiles on S.H.I.E.L.D.,” giving the show three and a half stars out of four.

The reviews have been more positive than negative so far, but The New York Times did say that it is hard to judge S.H.I.E.L.D. on smaller terms, because the Avengers movies are so much larger than life on the big screen. It’s obviously much harder to go back down to a smaller screen.

As the Times writes, “Fairly or not, the first thing you may notice is that it looks kind of puny in the context of the Marvel universe, even though it’s a reasonably lavish production, by TV standards…There’s always the chance that Iron Man or at least Nick Fury will drop by to lend a hand.” The Hollywood Reporter also noted that “calling the pilot ‘good but not great’ has more to do with expectations than anything else.”

In addition to the debut of S.H.I.E.L.D., Revolution will also return this week on the 25th, making it a hell of a week for genre TV.
