Hunger Games Catching Fire to Score Huge at the Box Office
The next installment of The Hunger Games is of course going to make big money at the box office. How big? What are the box office pundits predicting? Try $950 million world-wide.
As Variety tells us, the box office analysts predict that the next Hunger Games flick, Catching Fire, which opens on November 22, will make $375 million in the states, and $575 overseas. Then comes the Mockingjay movies, which divides the book into two parts, a la Lord of the Rings, which will be released in November 2014 and 2015.
At least for right now, dystopia is the hot thing in young adult stories, thankfully displacing pseudo vampires. Coming in March, there’s also Divergent, which looks like Hunger Games Lite (And Hunger Games always struck me as Battle Royale Lite.).
Still, anything that helps keep book stores in business is good, and also just hitting the best-seller list is The Bone Season from Samantha Shannon, another dystopian young adult novel which the publishing biz hopes will eventually become another Harry Potter.
