Peter Jackson a No Go For Doctor Who, But Neil Gaiman Might Be Available

Posted by David Konow

We just reported that Peter Jackson may not be available any time soon to fulfill a geek fantasy, directing an episode of Doctor Who, which is a shame, because he’s a huge fan of the show, and it would be fascinating to see what he could do with it.

At the same time, Giant Freakin Robot tells us that Neil Gaiman could be available for his third Doctor Who episode, not to mention the powers that be have met Peter Jackson’s price if he has time to direct an episode. Jackson wanted a Dalek, and a Dalek is his for the taking if he’s ready to helm an episode.

As Giant Freakin Robot reminds us, Gaiman wrote the episode The Doctor’s Wife, and he won a Hugo award for it. He also recently wrote the Nightmare in Silver episode. Gaiman’s let it be known he’d love to come back for a third time, but his book schedule takes up a lot of time.

So Gaiman hopes he can be paid in time instead of money. “I’ve got enough money,” Gaiman said. “I’m wondering if maybe I can get them to start paying me in time.” And if he can’t get time, maybe they can give Gaiman the Dalek that was supposed to Peter’s. (BTW, Jackson wanted a GOLD Dalek as well. Maybe he wants to put it next to his Lord of the Rings Oscars.)

Here’s hoping that time will finally clear up for both parties, and wouldn’t it be cool if Jackson directed his episode from Gaiman’s script. Geek nirvana my friends. We hope Jackson also uses the gold Dalek in the episode as a funny wink-wink, nudge-nudge for the fans.
