Bioshock Infinite goes FTW

Bioshock Infinite - which goes on sale tonight worldwide - is on track to be one of the highest rated games of all times.

Indeed, the title managed to score a rather impressive 96% rating on Metacritic, an honor shared with only 13 other games, including Half-Life, Half-Life 2, BioShock, The Orange Box, Batman: Arkham City, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Mass Effect 2 and Resident Evil 4.

As MCVUK's Ben Parfitt notes, only five games have scored higher, with Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 and Grand Theft Auto III all scoring 97 per cent and Grand Theft Auto IV getting 98 per cent.

It should also be noted that BioShock Infinite has also garnered ten 10/10 ratings and reviews from multiple sites including Polygon, Destructoid and Eurogamer.

"As a game, BioShock Infinite has its successes and its falterings consistent with any suitably complex piece of interactive entertainment," wrote the folks at Destructoid.

"As a story, as an exercise in drawing the player into a believable and relevant world, as proof of exactly what a videogame can mean to a person ... Well, I already said it. BioShock Infinite is damn near perfect."

Team Polygon expressed similar sentiments.

"I'm still thinking about BioShock Infinite now, days after finishing. Irrational built a believable, fantastic world rooted in dark pieces of American history. But for everything it has to say, for all the questions it asks -many of which have no easy answers - BioShock Infinite's big thoughts and complicated narrative don't obscure the brilliant action game that carries those messages through.

"It's hard to know if Infinite will prove to be another major point of artistic discussion and development of the medium the way that BioShock was. But in every way, BioShock Infinite lives up to the promise of its legacy, and it looks poised to establish a new one."
