Jamie Foxx talks Spider-Man and villains

Jamie Foxx is a great actor, his performance as Ray Charles proved that, and he’s currently garnering rave reviews for his performance in Django Unchained.

Foxx is also up to play Electro, the villain in the next Spider-Man film, and he recently spoke about preparing for the role of Peter Parker’s next nemesis.

Cinema Blend confirms The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will start shooting in the first quarter of this year, and it’s due for release on May 2, 2014. Meanwhile, Foxx told ComingSoon that Electro’s costume, unlike the comics, won’t be green and yellow.

“It will be a different color,” Foxx said. “They (the producers) want something for the future. They want it more grounded and not as comic bookie…They want to try new things, like a liquid rubber…There are all these bolts and stuff in my arms when they are hanging me upside down and trying to figure out what happened. How did he become this way?”

Foxx also told MTV that director Marc Webb and his team “know it has to make sense in 2013 so the suit is really slick. It’s not green. It’s actually black.” Much like Peter Parker himself, Max Dillion, before he becomes Electro, is “a nobody,” Foxx said. “For his whole life, no one is talking to him. People have stolen his ideas at the big company. At a certain point, Spider-Man bumps into him and says, ‘You’re my guy. You’re my ears and eyes on the street.’” Then of course, as you can guess, something goes horribly wrong, “and when it turns on, he lights up.”

As ComicsAlliance points out, it’s a good thing to tweak the costumes a little, because if Electro looks like he does in the comics in the movie, he’d look pretty silly, much like the X-Men had to ditch the yellow spandex for the movies. Still, whatever villain Foxx plays, he’s sure to put in a great performance, and he’s at least one big reason I’ll be looking forward to the next Spider-Man film in May 2014.
