Carrie Fisher says she is returning to Star Wars

Harrison Ford (aka Han Solo) may be mulling a return to the Star Wars universe, but Carrie Fisher says she has already decided to reprise her role as the lovely Princess Leia.

“I thought it was already common knowledge,” Fisher said at a book signing last night. The veteran Hollywood actor had previously adopted somewhat of a humorous attitude towards a potential return to the franchise, telling The Talk:

“I like to think of it as ‘old Leia’, like, sway-backed old Leia the horse. I like the idea of being Mrs Solo, and we’ve just fought and fought and I killed him, but I’m sorry. I’m sorry – that’s right, I feel badly and I probably had an affair with some general.”

Although we do know Fisher won’t be wearing her bikini slave girl outfit this time around, nothing else is known about the upcoming trilogy, especially as the script has yet to be completed by master scribe Michael Arndt.

Hopefully the old gang – Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie – will all be back together for the new trilogy. While Han Solo may just end up having a peripheral role, I suspect Leia and Luke will be somewhat more visible in the upcoming films. Perhaps now that he is less whiny Luke can finally be a proper Jedi master (although he’ll obviously never be as amusing as Yoda), while Leia focuses on politics.

Personally, I’d like to see Timothy Zahn’s Thrawn trilogy serve as the basis for the new trilogy, but that is probably just wishful thinking. In the meantime, I’ll take whatever Arndt decides to serve up, as long as it isn’t Jar Jar Binks.
