From Dead Island to Project Hell
It's a crossover idea that's pretty much a no brainer. Zombies. Video games. Right!
Much like that famous Reese's Peanut Butter Cups commercial ("You put your chocolate in my peanut butter!"), they are two popular genre vehicles that go well together, so much so that when you try to look up lists of the best zombie games, at least one of them has fifty entries.
So now the company that gave us Dead Island, Techland, is working on another game, but this one is set in a fantasy environment. Don't worry, it will still be dark and violent, and according to CVG, the current working title / code name is Project Hell. As Techland puts it, this game will be "proof that chopping monsters frozen by magic spells using two-handed swords is brutally fun and addictive."
Again, this is dark fantasy stuff, and as the company explains on its official blog: "Our main goal is to make a game we can all enjoy playing so don't expect unicorns and fairies – we prefer breaking through hordes of undead minions only to slaughter their devilish and loathsome masters in a bloody boss-fight.
"To achieve that we'll use our experience already gained in game development and enhanced technology from Dead Island. We believe that we can make something really unique and trilling and hare it with you. Keep your fingers crossed."
So there will still be undead to fight, zombies are indeed hard to escape, but judging by the screenshots on the site, Project Hell is something else entirely.. In fact, this game grew out of a weapon mod created for Dead Island, and like a mutating creature, it could indeed grow into something unique and frightening in gaming.
Techland is promising further developments on their blog, and we'll be more than happy to keep you up to date here at TG as well.
