SimCity goes live on Mac OS X in February

Mac OS X users are currently able to play multiple versions of Sid Meier's Civilization on Steam, but what about the latest iteration of SimCity?

Fortunately, Electronic Arts (EA) has confirmed that its upcoming SimCity reboot will be available on the Mac as a digital download via Origin in February 2013.

And OS X users won't be shorted because they aren't playing on a Windows machine, promises EA exec Lucy Bradshaw, as the Mac version features the same deep, rich gameplay that defines the PC experience.

"Whether you owned a Macintosh or a DOS PC, we all have memories of laying down zones and reticulating splines from our youth. To the millions of SimCity fans out there, we've been listening and can proudly say that your calls have been answered. SimCity has a long legacy on the Mac and the team at Maxis is ensuring that it will be the deepest, richest and most accessible SimCity game yet," said Bradshaw.

"[And now] for the first time in SimCity franchise history, players' decisions will have long-lasting repercussions that will extend beyond their city limits. Together, players will address real global challenges such as climate change, the search for renewable resources and natural disasters. It's up to the players to decide whether to compete or collaborate to shape the world - for better or for worse."

SimCity fans interested in kicking off things a bit early can head over to the game website and sign-up for the beta.

Participants will have the opportunity to play SimCity on PC before it ships in February, in return for providing feedback in an effort to improve development of the title. Those who are chosen will be asked to provide their views and feedback on their experience playing to help improve development of the game.
